CREATE AND INSPIRING VISION, SMART GOALS AND A CLEAR INTENTION

You may be keen to get into action, or maybe not, either way, let’s just pause for a minute.

This first step is a gentle one, but it is also vital so don’t skip it.

The thing you need to do now, before you do anything else, is get super clear about what you want to achieve, why you are doing it, and how you will get there.

Why setting clear goals and vision matters:

  • Like going on a trip without a destination or map
  • As the song goes “If you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?”
  • Having a clear picture of what you will achieve will motivate you to get started, and to keep going when you have doubts, get tired or fed up.

Firstly,  you are going to do an exercise to get clear about your overall vision. This is focused on the what:

  • what you want to happen
  • the changes to you home
  • and how you want to feel afterwards.

Enjoy this and really engage your imagination. The more inspiring it is and the more you can picture the result the better. We will start this with a guided meditation and then follow it with a visioning exercise.

Next, you will reflect on why you are doing it. What are the benefits you will experience.

You are going to come back to this and remind yourself of why you are doing this, before each declutter session.

Finally, you will set a specific goal for your first declutter session.

It needs to be SMART (I explain later, in more detail, what this means)

This is the how .

Another aspect of how, is setting some intentions about the way you will be during the process. Compassionate, open (like a scientist), focused, disciplined

In summary:

  • Be really clear on what you are going to do
  • Make sure it is realistic – do not set your sights too high or you will get discouraged.

Use Everest metaphor. You may have a mountain to climb, but focus on the next stage of the journey.

I strongly suggest you set specific goals before every declutter session.

Now do the three topics below, Listening to Your Home and defining your project What and Why.
